How to care for your knitwear

Knits, sweaters, cardigans and knit dresses love gentle handling. Treat them softly and store them flat, and they'll hold their shape and softness for years.

Cold hand wash or dry clean

Hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent, or dry clean. Avoid agitation that can felt or stretch the knit.

Never wring — press the water out

Gently press water out between your hands or a towel. Wringing distorts the stitches.

Reshape and dry flat

Lay flat and reshape while damp. Drying flat stops the weight of the water from stretching it.

Fold to store, never hang

Always fold knitwear. Hanging drops and stretches it over time.

Pilling is normal

A little pilling is friction, not a fault — common at the underarms and sides. A fabric comb or shaver brings the surface back to new.

Why is my knit pilling?

Pilling comes from friction where the garment rubs, like the sides and underarms. It's not a fault — a fabric comb or shaver removes it easily.

Can I hang my knit dress?

Always fold knitwear. Hanging pulls it out of shape, especially heavier knit dresses.

How do I wash a knit?

Cold hand wash in a gentle detergent, press the water out (don't wring), then reshape and dry flat.

Hand-knitted by nature

Our hand-knitted styles are made individually, so small natural marks — a thread end or a missed stitch — are part of the craft, not faults. Machine knits use a fine yarn that’s soft and stretchy, and rarely needs pressing.

If a thread pulls

Knits can snag on rough or sharp surfaces. If a thread pulls, don’t cut it — that unravels the knit. Gently push it through to the inside instead. A snag from wear isn’t a fault unless our Customer Care team deems it so.

Can I steam or iron my knit?

A gentle steam or a cool iron under a cloth will lift creasing, though knits rarely crease — so skip it where you can. Always dry flat in the shade; hanging warps the shape, and washing against the care label isn’t covered by returns.
